UWGCR Announces Inaugural Class of the Capital Region Philanthropy Hall of Fame & Finalists for Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year

ALBANY, NY --- United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR) announced today the formation of the Capital Region Philanthropy Hall of Fame and Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year.

“We think our community has so many positive people making an impact every day.  There are individuals whose community support is legendary and that’s the inspiration for the Capital Region Philanthropy Hall of Fame,” stated UWGCR President & CEO Peter Gannon. “There are also people who are making an impact in our community with their passion, energy and dedication. And we want to celebrate them with the Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year.” 

The inaugural class of the Capital Region Philanthropy Hall of Fame is:

Neil and Jane* Golub

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson and Dr. Morris Washington

“We are proud to welcome Neil and Jane Golub and Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson and Dr. Morris Washington to the inaugural class,” Gannon said.  “The annual induction of the region’s keystone philanthropists will be widely celebrated.”

Nominations for the Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year were received from the community during February and reviewed by a community panel. 

The three finalists are:

Jeff Buell, Next Good Thing

Tracie Killar, South End Children’s Cafe

Annmarie Lanesey, Albany Can Code

“This award is for individuals who made an impact through a generous donation or volunteering or leading/starting a nonprofit,” Gannon continued.  “We received dozens of quality nominations and the review committee selected Jeff, Tracie and Annmarie for their enormous contributions to our community. We will honor all of them for their work and one will be named Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year.”

The Capital Region Philanthropist Hall of Fame and Capital Region Philanthropist of the Year will be celebrated at United Way’s Annual Awards on Thursday, May 29 at Albany’s Capital Center.  Honorary committee tickets are available at www.unitedwaygcr.org/awards.  Event sponsors are Capital District Physician’s Health Plan, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NBT Bank, CDTA and Hudson Valley Community College.
