Barbara Smith is an author, activist, and independent scholar who has played a groundbreaking role in opening up a national cultural and political dialogue about the intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender. She was among the first to define an African American women’s literary tradition and to build Black women’s studies and Black feminism in the United States. She has been politically active in many movements for social justice since the 1960s.
518 Day Community Celebration

UWGCR hosts its annual 518 Day, the single largest day of community impact in the Capital Region. Individuals, families and corporate groups can get involved by signing up for a service project with a local agency, donating items to the Stuff the CDTA Bus Drive, or participating in the Virtual 5K.

Women United Perfect Pitch

This event offers a group of nonprofit agencies the chance to earn funding in a Shark Tank-style event. The agency with the "Perfect Pitch" will be selected by a panel of community members, the winner will recieve a $10,000 grant form United Way of the Greater Capital Region.
