CA$H Coalition of the Greater Capital Region

NOTICE for this tax season

The health and safety of our community members, partners and volunteers is our top priority.

In-person tax preparation services at all VITA sites are suspended for this tax year. All filing will be conducted virtually.

The IRS tax filing deadline is April 15, 2021.  Call 2-1-1 after January 25, 2021 for more information and to book your appointment.

How to file your 2020 taxes

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national program sponsored by the IRS to provide free tax preparation for qualified residents. The CA$H Coalition has partnered with local agencies and community services to create a network of VITA volunteers who serve residents of Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Schoharie Counties.

Appointments required.

VITA couldn’t exist without the help of our volunteers. Each year we rely on local residents who volunteer as tax preparers at multiple VITA sites throughout the Capital Region.

We’re always looking for individuals who would like to help prepare tax returns, answer the phones and make appointments and more.

Our volunteers come from all types of backgrounds and professions. Don’t think you have to be an accountant to be a successful volunteer. Our training program and easy-to-use software will prepare you to successfully help others prepare their taxes.

Our volunteers are offered a no-cost, comprehensive training program that will prepare you to take the IRS certification test.

In 2019, the CA$H Coalition of the GCR was able to:

  • Prepare 15,779 tax returns by 289 Volunteers with over 11,000 hours

  • Return $20.6M to families and individuals in the Capital Region

  • Have $4.5M in EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) returned to working families & individuals

  • Save $4M in tax prep fees
