Building Brighter Futures: Offshore Wind Career Pathway Program Graduates and Next Enrollment
United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR), in partnership with NYSERDA and Capital Region BOCES, is proud to celebrate the graduates of the Offshore Wind Career Pathway Program and announce that enrollment is now open for the next cohort.
This innovative, tuition-free workforce training program has recruited more than 130 adult learners from priority communities, offering the skills and resources needed to thrive in high-demand green energy trades. Beyond the classroom, the program supports participants with critical services such as transportation and childcare—removing barriers and helping learners reach their goals.
Training for a Greener Tomorrow
The Offshore Wind Career Pathway Program provides specialized, hands-on instruction in trades such as electrical work, welding, and construction—fields vital to New York’s growing clean energy workforce. By combining technical training with wraparound support, the program ensures participants have every opportunity to succeed.
To date, 131 individuals have enrolled, and 34 have already graduated across two cohorts. Of those graduates:
- More than 50% have moved directly into the workforce
- 25% have secured apprenticeships in high-demand trades
- Others are working with job coaches or pursuing further education to continue building their career pathways
These outcomes demonstrate the program’s impact not only on individual lives but also on the Capital Region’s green energy economy.
Celebrating Our Graduates
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025 the second cohort of graduates was honored during a ceremony at William S. Hackett Middle School. This celebration recognized their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to building a brighter future—for themselves, their families, and their communities.
UWGCR applauds the graduates for their achievements and looks forward to watching their continued contributions to the region’s clean energy workforce.
Enrollment Now Open
The next enrollment period for the Offshore Wind Career Pathway Program is open through September 30. Adults aged 18 and older who hold a high school diploma or GED are encouraged to apply.
