How It Works
As a founding member, United Way guides overall strategic direction and shared goals of DECCR. Our strategy focuses on strengthening community-based organizations to better serve local populations and ensure every individual, regardless of income, has access to reliable internet and digital devices. Our collaborative approach helps expand digital equity in communities that need it the most.
Through DECCR, United Way invests in local trusted community partners that advance our shared objectives. Funded projects will include:
- Expanding Reliable & Affordable Internet Access
- Improving Online Accessibility
- Increasing Digital Literacy
- Cybersecurity Awareness
- Supporting Workforce Development
Impact Area: Community Resiliency
Digital access has become essential for survival and is fundamental for economic mobility, education, healthcare, and workforce participation. Lack of access to high-speed internet can create barriers to better opportunities.
- Most employment opportunities require online applications and digital communication.
- Government services—including driver’s license renewals, housing applications, or benefits enrollment—are increasingly going digital.
- Healthcare access, financial services, and housing applications rely on internet connectivity.
