United Way Launches 2026 Campaign
Setting a $4.2 Million Goal
October 14, 2026 — United Way of the Greater Capital Region officially launched its 2026 fundraising campaign at the Hangar 743 during its annual Campaign Takeoff, bringing together community leaders, workplace partners, donors, volunteers and supporters for an evening focused on impact and community action.
During the event, President and CEO Peter Gannon announced the organization's annual fundraising goal of $4.2 million, which will support programs and initiatives that help individuals and families throughout the Greater Capital Region access critical resources and opportunities.

The evening celebrated the collective impact made possible through community support. Families enrolled in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library spoke about the impact of the program on their households. Cynthia Hoag shared,
"This program is especially personal to me because I’m striving to break generational curses. Dolly started this library because her father couldn’t read or write, and that resonates deeply with me because my own mother couldn’t read or write either. So when I look at my son’s books, I see more than a collection of stories. I see an opportunity to change what gets passed down to the next generation."
While a participant, Ariel White, whose daughters Leila and Luna participate in Summer Meals shared,
"When my daughters and I arrive at a site, they’re excited to spend time with the community they’ve grown to love. They get to show off their new bike tricks, play games with the wonderful basketball teams from UAlbany, see friends, eat together, and have the best day possible. And that’s why I want to thank United Way and Heather Senecal for bringing this collaborative together, as well as every partner and funder who helps turn this idea into a reality. Because together, you’ve created more than a meal program. You’ve helped create a safe, welcoming space where families can simply show up-without having to spend money, explain themselves, or prove that they belong."

Reaching Annual Campaign Goal
Throughout the evening, partners and individual donors pledged their commitment to the community through United Way. Thanks to the generosity of donors and workplace campaigns already underway.
Campaign Chair Wally Altes also challenged attendees to jumpstart the campaign through a special $5,000 matching challenge, pledging to match the first $5,000 raised through contributions made at Campaign Takeoff. Funds raised throughout the campaign will support United Way's efforts to improve financial security, expand access to essential resources, and strengthen community partnerships across the region.
Members of United Way's Tocqueville Society were in attendance, including William and Roberta Winsman. As longtime supporters of United Way they encouraged others to give generously.
Roberta Winsman stated,
"When I think about why we give, I think about impact. The United Way brings people together to create opportunities, strengthen families, and support those who need it most. As members of the Tocqueville Society, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to invest in the future. Our support helps ensure that programs like the Imagination Library continue to reach children and families, while also strengthening the many other initiatives that make our region a better place to live and work."
