The Next Generation of Leaders

Featuring children who engage with many of the local organizations we partner with in our eight-county region, this video captures the essence of what it means to be HERE FOR GOOD. We hope you're as moved by their words as we are and that you're inspired to become a recurring donor

United Way is advancing community well-being on a generational scale

To us, well-being means everyone across the Greater Capital Region experiences the conditions and opportunities they need and want to be happy, healthy, and thriving.

We continue to prove the best way to move the needle is through collaboration.

As a supporter of United Way, your donation helps us meet the immediate needs of families and individuals across the 8 Capital Region counties, particularly the more than 167,000 households that live below the ALICE threshold and struggle to make ends meet.

United Way of the Greater Capital Region is HERE FOR GOOD, serving families and individuals in Albany, Columbia, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties.

CONNECT COMMUNITIES TO RESOURCES

Fielded 10,000 calls at the 211 call center, connecting community members to vital services like food, shelter, health care, and mental health counseling.

NOURISH HEALTHY HABITS

During the summer months, when hunger is at its highest, UWGCR and its partners served 1.9M meals to kids in the Capital Region since 2013 through the Summer Meals Collaborative.

PROMOTE FINANCIAL LITERACY & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

UWGCR and four local nonprofit partners engaged 105 kids in Danny Dollar Academy, a program for grade-school children to improve their financial literacy and spark their entrepreneurial spirit.

PROVIDE BASIC NEEDS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Wraparound service agencies provide a convenient, one-stop shop for families to meet their most basic needs. UWGCR’s network of six Family Neighborhood Resource Centers connected 11,000 families in 2022 to food, clothing, counseling services, and more.

ADVANCE TRUST-BASED PHILANTHROPY

Nonprofits are best positioned to determine how to use their funds, resulting in more significant, flexible, and longer-term grants. In 2023, UWGCR invested more than $3 million to over 70 nonprofit partners.

INVEST IN SYSTEMS CHANGE

UWGCR intentionally looks to support smaller organizations and advance equity by investing $390,000 in emerging and BIPOC-led nonprofits through our Changemakers Fund and Luminosity Collaborative.
