What is CA$H?
United Way of the Greater Capital Region leads a coalition of organizations called the CA$H Coalition of the Greater Capital Region who work to bring financial stability and resources to individuals and families in our five-county region.
The CA$H Coalition runs the VITA program. VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and this program provides FREE income tax preparation throughout the region, bringing back over $15 million last year to local households.
These efforts are driven by volunteers, and Young Leaders are called to help serve our communities and make a difference in the lives of our friends, families and neighbors.
What does a CA$H Advisor do?
Young Leaders will work on-site directly with VITA clients to discuss their financial situation and provide information about the resources that are available to them and their families.
Volunteers will be provided a quick training prior to their shift to learn how to best serve as a CA$H Advisor and become familiar with the resources and information you will be providing. The 9:00 am shift should arrive by 8:45 am and enter through the back door, meeting in the smaller auditorium on the first floor. The 11:00 am shift should arrive by 10:40 am and enter through the main doors, also meeting in the smaller auditorium on the first floor. United Way's Financial Stability Community Impact Manager will be providing you with training and assistance.
This opportunity is a great way to directly impact the lives of people in our region. The information and resources that Young Leaders provide will help to secure financial stability for many families. Get a friend to volunteer with you or use this as an opportunity to meet other Young Leaders but please note there is a limit of 5 people per shift so please RSVP soon!

August Volunteer Activity

United Way Family Resource Center School Supply Drive Volunteers
Young Leaders will partner with the United Way Family Resource Center located within the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center for their community supported School Supply Drive! YL will organize the donations by specific criteria and direction so that these supplies are ready to be distributed to the programs, families and school children in the Mechanicville and Stillwater area.
DATE: Wednesday, August 25th
TIME: 6:00 - 8:00 pm (Pizza Included!)
LOCATION: Mechanicville Area Community Services Center
6 South Main St., Mechanicville
DESCRIPTION:United Way Family Resource Centers provide many programs and services to families, individuals and children that help them to live happy and healthy lives. The Mechanicville FRC School Supply Drive is very successful with tremendous support from the community. Last year they served over 100 children. This year, they have been asked by the Stillwater Community Center to serve their families back to school supply needs as well so the number of children served could easily double.
Once they receive all of the donations, it takes a lot of time and resources to organize the supplies and distribute them to the children who need them. United Way wants to ensure that every child has access to the tools and resources they need for a good education. By partnering with Mechaniville, YL is doing our part to make sure the children of Mechanicville and Stillwater get a good start by having the supplies that they need to be successful.
This is a great volunteer activity that supports a United Way initiative, serves a community need, gives you an easy, hands-on volunteer opportunity at the Community Center, and provides a small glimpse into the obstacles that many of our local families face.
