Family Resource Centers
United Way of the Greater Capital Region supports and funds Family Resource Centers as part of its strategy to provide long-term solutions to the strains placed on local families. Family Resource Centers, within each county of our five-county region, are one-stop locations where families have access to a network of services including pre-natal parent education, early learning tools, budgeting assistance, prevention programs and much more.
The overall goals of Family Resource Centers are to promote healthy families and communities through centers that:
- Provide a local, accessible entry point for families to get support in a safe, welcoming place
- Engage whole families
- Take a comprehensive approach to connecting families to resources
- Form vertical and horizontal partnerships for service integration
- Are a hub for services, supports and opportunities in which staff and families collaborate
- Are places where parents can increase their competencies and reduce their feelings of isolation
- Create a place where children can access social and educational opportunities as well as interact with caring adults
